Nassau County Film Office Director Debra Markowitz and Steve Buscemi of Boardwalk Empire at the first awards ceremony of the Long Island International Film Expo (LIIFE) circa 1998

Hello All, (These must be in Nassau County)
I hope you are enjoying this holiday season and that all is well.
I am working on Boardwalk Empire, and they are scouting for 1920's locations or ones that can be dressed as such. They are interested in seeing warehouses, homes (in period neighborhoods or stand alone), restaurants/bars, ballrooms, etc.
Please let me know whatever you may have available in the Nassau County area. Photos would be helpful. If you have any suggestions, please e-mail debfilm@aol.com and reference this job.
Also, we are having our location and studio tour from December 14 - 15 and bringing location managers and producers to many of our sites here in Nassau County. We're looking for items for the goodie bags. I'm thinking usuable items from businesses/locations in Nassau County. We'd need 25 - 30 of them. If you have anything good, please let me know.
Thank you for your attention.
Best,
Debbie

Locations Needed for Two Low-Budget, Indie Features

Hello All, (These must be in Nassau County)
1)Looking for locations for two indie films. One does have a budget, though a low one. They are looking for a closed, fast-food restaurant. Film name is "Compliance." This is for the last week of January or early to mid-February. 2 - 3 days prep, 3 days of shooting and 2-3 days of wrap. Must be in Nassau County - should be near Mineola.
2)Locations for "The Three," a Scott Goldberg Film.
a)From Scott: Just need an outside shot for a film that I'm shooting. I'm using a DSLR HD Still Camera and tripod only and hoping to either get permission or do it guerrilla style. Any location or towns with an institution type of building where Scientists would be or base their headquarters out of would be appreciated. It doesn't have to be an actual place where scientists work, but something that can pass for it.Just need an exterior shot of a building that can pass for where a scientist headquarters would be.
b) looking to shoot for an hour in a room of a quiet house - from the 50s, meaning nothing modern in it - for some reason I'm thinking an old building that may be on a reservation or not being used anymore. We're setting up a table and three characters as the scene is of a man talking to the other two men about doing a sale - hell, we can even do this scene as they all stand, doesn't need to be at a table - looking to make this quick and simple.... It's for an HD project and it's $50 pay for the hour. Think of "The William Cullen Bryant House" type feel with the interior walls, etc. A place with windows would be great. It's all natural lighting and is me and a camera, no other crew.
If you have any suggestions for "Compliance," please note the name of the movie and send it to me at debfilm@aol.com. If you have any suggestions for Scott Goldberg, you can e-mail him directly at scott@mrmullenfilm.com
Thank you.
Best,
Debbie

Locations Needed for Sam Worthington Movie and Still Shoot

Nassau County Film Office Director Debra Markowitz and actor Sam Worthington.

Hello All, (These must be in Nassau County)
I hope all is well, and you're getting ready to have a wonderful holiday.
First, I need two locations.
1) For feature film, "Man on a Ledge," starring Sam Worthington (Avatar), they need a building with two doors that open to a hallway that would appear to be in a court building. It must be large. This is for as early as next week. Although this is a feature, the budget is not huge, but adequate. They'd like this as near to Bethpage as possible.

2)For Gant Rugger men's clothing, they need an artists living/work space. About 6,000 - 7,000 square feet. This is for a still shoot with video for the web. This is for Dec 11 or 13.

And lastly, from December 14 - 15, we will be holding a Film Friendly Nassau County Location and Studio Tour and take approximately 25 location managers, producers, directors and a couple of celebrities to various filming locations in Nassau County as well as touring our NYS approved studios. We want to give out goodie bags to attendees, and if you have anything that is appropriate to give to the attendees that would highlight your area (if you're film friendly) and company, we would be open to it. We're thinking usuable items, not literature. Please contact me asap if you have anything.

If you have any suggestions for the above, please e-mail me at debfilm@aol.com and reference the job name.
Thank you, and have a wonderful holiday.
Best,
Debbie

Locations Needed for Film and Commercials

These must be in Nassau County

For a David Chase project - set in suburban New Jersey in the 1960's. They want towns and villages that haven't been overly modernized. The houses would play as homes to middle to upper-middle class families. Town/Village must be film-friendly and not have very high permit fees.
The film is currently entitled "The Twylight Zones" and is about a group of kids looking for fame and fortune in the 1960s New York City rock and roll scene.  Nice script, lots of great music. They're planning to shoot January into early April.  The biggest star attached so far is Steve Van Zandt who played Silvio in the Sopranos (and lead guitar in the E-Street band of course).  The kids cast so far are largely unkown actors.
Any suggestions, please e-mail debfilm@aol.com and reference the job name.

Working on a very big Lotto job for late November, Early December. They need a main street with small streets - now here's the catch. They need to blow the store windows out of about 10 stores! This is a big job, and very well funded. They will pay the store owners very well, and hire the necessary pyrotechnic people, fire people, police, etc. They can do this at night.
If your town has the look, and the store ownes could use the income - please e-mail suggestions to debfilm@aol.com and reference the job.

Movie Extras Needed Today!!

Hello All,
Short notice - but here it is. Extras needed for today 4:30/5:00 - at a house in Huntington. Need 10 people - 5 male, 5 female. Ages 18 - 25 years old for national cable network film - "Unfaithful."
Company: True Entertainment - come already dressed for this 80's re-enactment scene - clothing (no stripes, no logos) and bathing suit with towel (yep, there's a hot tub scene). This is non-paying and non-union. No pay, but lots of fun. Contact asap: Rosalind Cook - 917 541-7454 rosalind1@yahoo.com.

Thank you.

Location Needed for Jim Carrey film (and still shoot)

Locations Needed for Feature Film (and Still Shoot) – (Must be in Nassau County)

For feature film, “Mr. Popper’s Penguins” (starring Jim Carrey), they need a very old style classroom to shoot for one day in November. Think young Indiana Jones style classroom. Wood trim. Interesting decor. No white boxes. We need to shoot it during the day. The character is supposed to be around 10 years old. Any place you can think of would be very helpful.

For a still photography shoot for Joseph Liebman Photography they need an exterior nature preserve. This is a very small shoot- only 6 people, still camera equipment and not a lot of money. Do you have any places in your areas that do not charge a large permit, administrative or use fee?

If you have any suggestions for these areas, please e-mail debfilm@aol.com and reference the job name.

Thank you!
Best,
Debbie

Location Needed AND Filmmakers Connection Meeting

Location Needed (Must be in Nassau County)

For a Honda commercial – they’re looking for a countryside road (which they may be able to do at a local college) that leads to a working class area. Upper middle class – must be able to see other houses around it. The catch here – this is a late night shoot – but it has a healthy budget. In other words, they don’t have a problem working with the neighbors, but would rather not have to pay them all as they feel they can probably do this easier in other areas – but I’d really like to see the money spent in Nassau County. They will need to park some trucks on the street – but this is only a 40 person shoot – not a huge one. Any villages/cities/towns up for the challenge?

If you have any suggestions, please e-mail debfilm@aol.com. Please reference: Honda commercial.

Also – anyone interested in attending the Filmmakers Connection networking meetings, there will be one on Monday (YES – MONDAY), October 18 at 7:00 pm in room 303 at Five Towns College in Dix Hills. The speaker it tba.

Thank you!

Debbie

Locations needed for Feature Films etc

(These locations must be in Nassau County)
For HBO Movie, “Too Big to Fail”, they’re seeking a cavernous, tall ceiling, old bank-like building for a financial institution, along the lines of a Cipriani in NYC

For feature film, “The Great Gatsby.” The movie will probably be filmed next spring/ summer. Baz Luhrmann is directing. They are looking for a red brick/ Greek revival type mansion rather than the castle look. The second house is what Beacon Tower looked like - almost chateau with point. Not cast yet.

Marvel Studios feature film, “The Avengers,” is looking for a large lab like building with an atrium. Must be modern, grand and circular. Big shoot.

Paradox, Inc. needs a spacious Turkish bath for a Chromeo music video for one day during the last week of September. This is for a 40 person shoot.

Travel Channel needs a 1900's style cobblestone road surrounded by grass, trees, a brick building, possibly old-fashioned lamp posts and arches for one day the end of next week for a program, "Mysteries at the Museum."
If you have any suggestions for these locations, please e-mail debfilm@aol.com and reference the project name – thank you!
Best,
Debbie

My Imperfect Life and Remembering 9/11

My Imperfect Life and Remembering 9/11/01

I’d like to say that my life is perfect right now, at this very minute, and at most moments, it feels as if it is. John and his daughter are at the Sands Point Preserve dressed up in period garb and becoming medieval folk. My daughter is at work, where she can drive to because she has a license and her car. My rescue mutt, Trippy, is lounging in the back yard, sunbathing, which she likes to do quite often. I feel such pride that I’ve been able to have and run my own home.
And I’m here, in my home, after shopping and doing errands and providing for my family, writing this blog and feeling so thankful. And what’s not perfect? I have a job I love, true, it’s now where I’d imagined I’d end up 30 years ago, but it’s still great. I have my health, my happiness, both of my parents are still alive, I’m close to my brother and his wife. I have a partner who is a true equal who challenges and/or supports me every day to be who I was meant to be – to fulfill whatever journey I was sent here to follow, or create. I can move my body in all sorts of ways which brings me joy – whether it be dancing, walking, running, yoga, weight lifting or just stretching, and it all feels so good. And I can’t forget my amazing friends who I’ve been fortunate to meet.
We’re not here on this earth for too long. We’re a basic blip in the time continuum that is infinity. And we’re actually not here to just exist and get by. We’re all here to learn something – but I don’t think there’s anything wrong with having an incredible time while we’re here! While I can’t say I’m happy every moment of my life, I am most. Like the Aerosmith song says, “I don’t want to miss a thing.” I don’t. I want to do it all, have it all. I don’t mean material things, though those are fun – but a true spiritual and happy path. The ability to truly help others along their way is a luxury, and something I’m very thankful for as well.
John said to me yesterday, he wonders sometimes what it would be like if we’d met each other 30 years ago. But in truth, while it must be an amazing experience to have children with someone who actually would stick around and be part of their lives, and while I can’t even imagine what wonderful children we could have created, would we have been ready for each other? Maybe we would have been happy and stayed together all this time, but would we have become who we were meant to be? Would I have known enough to demand from him everything that I needed? Would I even have known what I needed if I didn’t go through everything I did? I think not.
I think I had to go through a couple of bad marriages to realize that security was not the answer. Growth, expansion is the answer – but maybe I wouldn’t have known that. How on earth could I have created my first two books, “Naked in the Rain,” and “Sarah and Caleb,” if I didn’t know pain, and loss, and hope and survival? They’re not biographies, but the messages are there. When people e-mail me to tell me what those stories have meant to them, I know I’ve hit upon a universal condition – one many of us have gone through. And though I don’t have the entire thing figured out, I do know that we are all basically different parts of one being. If I really dislike someone, is there something about me that is similar to them that I don’t like? How can I change it?
Hearing sirens outside as I write this, it’s a terrible reminder of 9/11. Of all that was lost, and it can never be properly counted. Lives, innocence, health, security, freedoms…so much. But life did go on, it does every day. Babies are born (welcome, Isaac Henry Bard), people have looked inside themselves to see what really matters. Hopefully some of us have learned to not take a day for granted, to love as much as we can. To be able to, for a short while, see each other without the veil of ego. To feel each other’s pain…and hope. To know what it is to be one, and to want to give of yourself.

This was my 9/11 post on Facebook:

I was at my computer when a friend IM'd me that a plane had hit the first tower. "What an idiot," I thought. When he told me the second tower was hit, I froze, and knew it was so much more. I went in to my friend, Debbie Damone (still alive then), and we went up the hall to watch TV in the Real Estate department, in... shock as they fell. My exhusband (still my husband then) called (which he never did), and I decided to go home. The buses took the children home early that day, and we watched the events unfold on TV together. It was terrible for everyone, some obviously more than others. But we stood together, we put our flags out, some gave their lives, or lost loved ones, but we all lost something. But we stood together, all of us. We met on the street corners and lit candles and said prayers. Some of us tried to go in, or gave food and water, and it was turned away because of the outpouring of volunteers and donations. But for a while, we all looked at, and treated each other differently...with love, and with the understanding that it was felt by all. Don't you see - if you rally against something without the true facts, if you hate for no other reason than the color of someone's skin or their religion - we all lose. They win. Of course there are bad people everywhere, but most are not. Maybe it's idealistic, but if we can love in return - we win. We all win.
This is not a holiday to be celebrated, but one to be remembered. And if you choose to celebrate, celebrate love.

Acting Gigs/UPM/1st AD/Models/Locations needed/Internship

HBO’s television movie, “Too Big to Fail,” needs a Dutch colonial home for approximately a week in November.

For a children’s book, which will be turned into a film, a local filmmaker/writer needs to find some actors with good facial expressions. He needs three men and women early 30s to 40s and four boys, 8 to 12. Kids with parents always welcome and a plus. Please send resumes to JREDEN4261@aol.com. There is no payment for the still work, but here may be for the movie (if you are chosen for both).

A unit production manager and 1st AD are needed for a short, low-budget (non-union) film. These are paid gigs. Shooting is from Sept 27th through October 11th. This is for a short, student, thesis project. Locations will be:

Location Needed for Jim Carrey Film

Location Needed for Jim Carrey Film

20th Century Fox's feature film, "Mr. Popper's Penguins" starring Jim Carrey needs a restaurant akin to a Tavern on the Green. (This must be in Nassau County). It should have a fancy, round dining room and you should be able to see greenery through the window. Though the shoot is interior, you have to be able to see outside. This is for a November shoot - will most likely be one day of prep and one shooting day.

If you have any suggestions, please e-mail debfilm@aol.com and reference the project name.

Thank you!
Best,
Debbie

Hello All, (These must be in Nassau County)

A modern courthouse/room is needed for a pilot for a new USA television series - "A Legal Mind." (Not yet cast) They will need more courtrooms over the year, but one for one day for the pilot around mid-September.

For a foreign, independent feature, "Mamarosh," they're looking for government looking offices to look like customs and immigration offices. Also, an upscale loft with a filmable kitchen. Only a couple of days each mid-September.

This is a fun one, for feature film, "Man on a Ledge," they need to have a car drive parallel to a string of freight trains. The car then turns into the train and gets hit by it. So clearly, we need enough room next to a train for the car to drive, and a very friendly rail line.

If you have any suggestions, please e-mail debfilm@aol.com and reference the job name.
Thank you.

Locations Needed for Film/TV and Internships Available

LI Newstonight NYIT’s LI News Tonight is signing up interns for the Fall 2010 semester. If you or someone you know is interested in breaking into the television news industry, contact NYIT’s LI News Tonight at linewstonight@nyit.edu or 516 686-7952 to learn how we can put you on the air.

Interns/volunteers needed for the Nassau County Film Office. Hours of operation – Monday – Friday 9:00 am – 4:45 pm. Non-paying. Must be good on phone, computer literate, able to put in 2 – 3 days per week in Mineola office.

HBO's television movie, "Too Big Too Fail," needs two very large center hall colonials - one for three days and one for approximately a week. Still casting. Dates unspecified.

Feature film, "Arthur," needs a very large, green field over which to film two helicopters - one helicopter is filming the other. They will not be landing, and the only thing on the ground will be work lights, perhaps half a dozen, to light the ground.

Low-budget feature film, "Silent House," needs an isolated home they can board up for two months and take over. They prefer it vacant and by woods. They only have about $25,000 for the two months, but if you know of anyone at a bank that handle foreclosures, that could work. Or a family that is facing foreclosure and can stay somewhere for a couple of months - this could help them save their home. This is only a 30 person cast/crew situation, with a professional location manager who will respect the property.

For an Audi commercial - they need roads in Nassau County to show the scenic route. They will be doing area shots of the car driving. Must be in a film-friendly area.

If you have any suggestions, please e-mail debfilm@aol.com and reference the name of the job.

Thank you.
Debbie
