Max McLean, Female, 19. Struggling to deal with her
boyfriend’s suicide nearly a year ago, still being haunted by his memory.
Fragile but brave. An inner sadness, weight. Even when she’s smiling her eyes
carry heaviness. Pretty, doll like features.
Ish, Male 18-27. Still living in his small hometown
in upstate N.Y. Feels most comfortable spending nights in libraries and
climbing trees in the forest. A diamond in the rough. Short, fox like features.
Adam, Male - 18. Confidant, private school student
who killed himself only leaving behind a suitcase full of books. Key interests:
Poetry, existential dramas, and Shakespearian tragedies. Reappears to Max in
her present life, a memory she can’t forget. A poet with a dark side. Tall,
thin, fair skin.
Marty, Male - 40’s. Ish’s father who has become a
worn out alcoholic since his wife left when Ish was 7 years old. Provides bouts
of insight and wisdom.
Megan, 30’s. Ish’s mother. A beat up housewife who
leaves her husband. Suffers from bipolar disorder. Anxious, reckless.
Sophia McLean, 40’s-50’s. Max’s mother. Immigrated
from Eastern Europe when she was 20. Wants the best for her children. Petite,
slight accent.
John McLean, 50’s-60’s. Max’s father. A business who
prizes education and intelligence amongst all else. Stoic but has a soft spot
for Max even if he can’t understand her.
Roland -Male, 20’s. A pretentious college student who majors
in literature and doesn’t like to be outsmarted.
Professor Tyre, 35+. A liberal and kind drama
professor whose main focus is to promote dialogue in the classroom.
Amy, 19-27. Max’s friend in the recovery home.
Amicable, spacy.
Doctor Llewelyn-40+. Has been treating Max ever
since her overdose. Serious, mildly impatient.
